]Zanzibar Outreach Program was founded in Zanzibar in 2006 by a group of Zanzibaris wanting to help provide community services for their fellow islanders in Unguja and Pemba. Today we are one of the most respected Non-Governmental Organisations on the island due to our ongoing and lasting commitment to that cause.

ZOP, which relies on private local donations and collaborations with other NGO’s both in Tanzania and overseas, is dedicated to improving the community’s access to health care, clean water and education.Simply in our own words – “To Meet the Needs of the Needy”

Zanzibar Outreach Program (ZOP) is an NGO run solely by Zanzibaris for Zanzibaris since its inception in 2006. It was the collective realization of a handful of colleagues, family and friends, that with the professional backgrounds that spanned between them, they could make a difference to their society.

The formation of ZOP would not only enable the community spirit of their compatriots to be activated and focused within the critically pressurized health sector of Zanzibar, but between the co-founders and their network, combined professional skills could be applied to other sectors of society, where there were obvious social needs to be met.

ZOP is run on a voluntary basis and relies on goodwill, people’s valuable time and skills, financial donations and collaborative partnerships with other registered NGOs. Expenses, including travel costs, are covered but time and skills offered by all team members are not remunerated. 2011 saw 15 medical staff volunteer at ENT camps, 20 at Obstetrics and Gynecology camps, 12 for Eye camps, 15 for Orthopedics, 45 for the Charity wing, 25, including engineers, for water projects and 32 for the mobile clinics in Unjuga. ZOP is a vibrant, talented team of around 164 highly qualified professionals, many involved in the training of their peers, and all dedicated to the cause of making a difference to the lives of their fellow Zanzibaris
