Facility Upgrade

Zanzibar Outreach Program / Facility Upgrade

Healthcare and education, therefore  healthcare  facilities and education facilities are  important  in  all  countries.  These are  the places where children are born,  lives are saved and diseases cured and get educated. Without good healthcare and education facilities a  country  cannot  grow.  A  lot  of  health  facilities  in  Zanzibar  are  unfortunately  not  in their  best shape. Hospitals are not only found in old buildings, but some units have never  evenbeen renovated. Because of these reasons ZOP started a project to upgrade health facilities.

It was through ZOP that the Chake Chake Audiolody Unit was constructed in 2008, the Eye Theatre at Mnazi Mmoja hospital in 2009 and the Audiology Block at Mnazi Mmoja in 2010, which was funded by ZOP’s main donor, IMPACT

In 2014 ZOP helped with the renovation of the emergency unit and the pediatric ward of Mnazi Mmoja Hospital. Besides, a sound proof booth was developed at ENT Unit and fans were placed in the  hospital’s  main  theatre’s corridor  (operating  room).  ZOP also donated  materials  for  the construction of a fallen fence around the hospital and renovated the front of the administrative block where a  water pipe and a sewage line were fixed.  In Chake Chake Hospital in Pemba the ENT  clinic  and  the  main  theater  were  renovated  and  the  theater  was  provided  with  new equipment.

Solar power lamps were distributed to the delivery centres in Unguja and Pemba and to the Fidel Castro High school in Pemba
